Hyperliquid copy trading: sizing, slippage and risk
Understand proportional copy sizing, fees, collateral, drawdowns and why your Hyperliquid copy can differ from the trader you follow.
Proportional copying is not an identical result
Copytrade aims to mirror a trader proportionally to the USDC allocation you choose. In a simplified example, a trader using 10% of their relevant capital on an exposure would imply a corresponding share of your configured allocation. Actual sizing also depends on current positions, collateral and execution constraints.
The leader's trade happens first. Your order can execute at another price, incur different fees, be reduced by available margin or fail to fill. A high historical return on the leader's account does not establish the return your copy will achieve.
Review exposure and drawdown together
Inspect open positions, leverage, concentration and the path of historical returns. Two traders with similar total profit can have very different drawdowns and liquidation exposure. A short profitable history can conceal risks that have not yet occurred.
Choose an allocation you can evaluate as a separate risk budget. Monitor the difference between the trader's result and yours, including fees and missed executions. Account margin settings affect how collateral supports positions; review the current protocol rules before using leveraged products.
Understand controls before starting
Review the current copy configuration and loss-protection settings before confirming. A loss threshold is a control, not a guaranteed exit price. Gaps, liquidity, exchange availability and execution timing can make the realized loss larger than expected.
Use only the permissions required by the app and learn how to stop a copy and revoke access. A trading-only API wallet can still place losing trades. Leveraged trading can lose your entire allocation. Shared performance reports are view-only and do not place orders.
